This play placed third in the Fringe festival's national New Play contest. It's being performed by an excellent young cast in a wicked space that serves alcohol, and everyone you know should come and see it.

WordPlay: Poetry/Music Fusion Playtime

Sunday, Nov. 13 @ 7:30pm

Free Times Cafe, 320 College St. (@ Spadina)

Open mic for poets & musicians!

$3 / $1 for backup musicians!

Features

Music: Pat Kelly www.myspace.com/patkelly www.thestarcombo.com http://patkelly.coffeehouse.ca
Poetry: Strong

What is this WordPlay thing?

Features and open micers are encouraged to "borrow" another poet or musician for their set. Experimental spontaneous collaborative goodness. A "jam with a twist". :)

Reminder: All WordPlay shows are recorded, and if the recording works out, you get a copy of your set! Great for Coffeehouse pages, bonus tracks on your CDs, or just listening to yourself to grow in what you do.

Sun., Dec. 11: Special 1-year anniversary show! All open mic, to say thank you to the great audience over the last year.

See you Sunday!

what was I supposed to be doing tonight, again? [09 Oct 2005|05:05pm]

superjill
Oh ya, going to WordPlay!

Esp. if you're a poet or musician - the open mic is a jam with a twist.

If you miss tonight's show (or if you fall into love with Bear's stuff as much as I have so you need to see him again)

This is where he'll be:

Monday: SMILING BUDDHA CAFE 961 College St.
Tuesday: RENAISSANCE CAFÉ 1938 Danforth Ave.
Wednesday: RENAISSANCE CAFÉ 1938 Danforth Ave.

See you after your Thanksgiving dinners tonight, or if you don't have a dinner tonight, don't be alone - come out and be thankful for independent art, at WordPlay!

WordPlay on Sunday Bears all, and you'll Phlip! & volunteer needed [05 Oct 2005|02:40pm]

superjill

I feel extraordinarily lucky to be able to feature talent from elsewhere again. Last month's show was sizzling with Ryk and Melissa, and this month promises to be just as amazing.

Bear Wolf (comin' up from the States) who featured here at Strange Tongues a couple of years ago, has high energy & thought provoking performances. He's bringing drums and other rhythmic/tribal things to play with the other poets and musicians through the eve.

Phlip Arima is a local fave & published poet.  In his words the mundane and the surreal collide. He reads lyrically, giving new meaning to "poetry/music fusion."

When:This Sunday, Oct. 9  (come on by after your Thanksgiving dinners, and give thanks to a thriving local arts scene in Toronto!). 7:30pm
Where: Free Times Cafe, 320 College (at Spadina)
What: Two tantalizing features. Show up early to get on the open mic. Night will be recorded for your use! And don't forget -- it's a chance to try something different, like mixing it up with other poets and musicians, in a spontaneous collaboration.
How much: $3 (or $1 for backup musicians -- come on our and play with us!)
